Load

Load represents all of the items a character is carrying on them, aside of their worn gear, merits, and esoterics. It essentially affects how many times a player can say “I brought this thing with me,” with the tradeoff on how higher loads are more susceptible to the lost resource trouble or cuts on attempts to be sneaky or to maneuver gracefully. Character loads fall within three categories – light, medium, and heavy – determining how much inventory space the character has, and how much of a hindrance that inventory might cause.
  • Light loads can hold up to 3 boxes of items. Light loads will never cause a character to take cut for an action.
  • Medium loads can hold up to 5 boxes of items. Medium loads might cause a character to take cut on tasks related to stealth or maneuverability, but are not too conspicuous in the public places.
  • Heavy loads can hold up to 7 boxes of items. Heavy loads often cause a character to take cut to remain inconspicuous, to maneuver with grace, or to move quietly.
A character with empty inventory space available under their load can freely add items as if they had it on them all along, as long as it makes sense for their character. For example, a firefighter with a heavy load and only 3 marked inventory boxes might say “I have an axe in my backpack” and add it to their inventory, marking 1 box for the newly declared item. Load 0 items include very light items that can be carried together in a single hand, such as a small amount of money, keys, or a phone. Characters do not need to mark any load for these items. Load 1 items include small but bulky items that take a full hand to carry, such as a heavy book, rope, lantern, or one-handed weapon. Load 2 items include large items that require two hands to carry; large weapons, unworn armor, or camping gear.
